A 32-year-old man died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while cycling in upper Manhattan late last month. Erick Lamont Bowie was riding southbound on Amsterdam Avenue near West 151st Street in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood around 9:45 p.m. on June 19 when a 2021 Dodge Durango sideswiped him, according to authorities.

The impact caused Bowie to collide with a parked minivan nearby, resulting in severe head injuries. Emergency responders transported him to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Dodge Durango fled the scene and has not been apprehended.

Bowie worked as a driver at Interfaith Medical Center and resided with his mother, Tanya Bowe, in the NYCHA Ingersoll Houses in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Speaking about the incident, Bowe expressed a strong desire for the driver to be found and held accountable, emphasizing that her son did not deserve to lose his life in such a manner.

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the crash and search for the individual responsible. No arrests have been made at this time.
