A woman suspected of carrying out a parcel bomb attack in Monaco that seriously injured a Ukrainian-born businessman and members of his family has been found dead in a forest near Kyiv, Ukrainian authorities confirmed. Anastasiia Berezovska, 39, was discovered late Monday with a gunshot wound to the head, prompting an investigation into the circumstances of her death.
Berezovska was wanted in connection with a June 29 explosion that targeted millionaire Vadym Yermolaiev, 58, his partner Anna Nasobina, 46, and their 13-year-old son. The blast left several injured, including Nasobina, who suffered the loss of both legs. Prosecutors in Monaco have charged Berezovska with attempted murder, placing an explosive device with criminal intent, and criminal conspiracy. French authorities allege she disguised herself as a man before leaving the parcel in the entrance hall of the victims’ apartment building. Following the attack, she fled the scene on foot and traveled through France, Italy, and Germany.
Ukrainian security services described the investigation as complex, involving contacts between Berezovska and two men in Ukraine—a serving officer in the military intelligence agency (HUR) and a former law enforcement official. Both men have been arrested and are under investigation as possible accomplices. Authorities noted that Berezovska received cryptocurrency payments from the two, though the serving intelligence officer reportedly acted independently and did not inform his superiors of his involvement.
Interpol had issued a Red Notice requesting her arrest, coordinating with law enforcement worldwide. Following her return to Ukraine on July 1, investigators tracked her communications with family members and the two men. Searches of the arrested men’s properties uncovered footage of what was described as a bloodstained “torture chamber” containing various tools.
The Ukrainian prosecutor general’s office confirmed that an inquiry into Berezovska’s death is ongoing. Authorities said that an interview with the intelligence officer helped reconstruct the crime scene in Ukraine and led to the discovery of her body.
The attack in Monaco has drawn significant attention, with local authorities, including Prince Albert II, condemning the act as an “odious” crime. While two individuals suspected of assisting Berezovska were briefly detained in Monaco, they were later released due to a lack of evidence.
The incident highlights concerns over the involvement of individuals associated with official agencies and raises questions about the use of cryptocurrencies in financing criminal acts. Investigations are continuing, with information being shared between Ukrainian and Monaco authorities.
