A deadly shooting unfolded Monday at a grocery store in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood, resulting in the deaths of a police officer, a local rabbi, and the gunman, while a policewoman was injured. Authorities issued a shelter-in-place warning around 12:30 p.m. as the armed suspect was reported moving through the area.

According to witness accounts and video footage, the gunman, dressed in camouflage and armed with a semi-automatic rifle, engaged with responding officers in a prolonged exchange of gunfire, with as many as 30 shots heard. During the confrontation, one officer was fatally shot and was seen lying unresponsive on the ground, while a female officer sustained injuries.

The deceased rabbi, Michael Moshe Mizrahi, affiliated with the local Jewish community and the Chabad MADA center, was identified as a bystander caught in the violence. His death was confirmed by community sources.

Investigations revealed that the gunman had released a manifesto expressing allegiance to the incel movement, a fringe subculture characterized by misogynistic views, blaming women for personal and societal grievances. Police are continuing to probe the motive and circumstances surrounding the attack. Authorities have not released further details about the identities of the other victims or the sequence of events leading to the gunman’s death.
