Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), in partnership with Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), has initiated the assessment phase of a national survey aimed at evaluating diagnostic and intervention services for individuals with developmental disabilities. The survey launch event brought together representatives from key healthcare institutions, hospitals, and centers involved in delivering these specialized services across the country.

The project seeks to provide a detailed and accurate appraisal of the current landscape of diagnostic and therapeutic provisions related to developmental disabilities in Qatar. It aims to identify existing strengths as well as areas needing improvement to enhance the quality of care and increase accessibility for affected individuals.

Spanning one year, the survey will encompass around 70 healthcare facilities nationwide, including hospitals, health centers, clinics, and specialized treatment centers. This comprehensive coverage is intended to capture data reflective of a broad spectrum of service settings.

Dr. Salma Khalaf Al Kaabi, advisor to the Minister of Public Health and national lead for the autism action plan, underscored the significance of the project in advancing Qatar’s efforts to develop and strengthen services for developmental disabilities in alignment with international best practices. She emphasized the necessity of collaboration and coordination among stakeholders and encouraged health providers and affiliated institutions to actively participate in the survey to ensure data accuracy and comprehensiveness.

According to Dr. Al Kaabi, the survey findings will inform evidence-based decision-making by identifying gaps and challenges within existing services. The results are expected to guide the formulation and implementation of effective national strategies to improve diagnostic and intervention offerings, thereby enhancing individuals’ quality of life and promoting their integration into society.

The survey encompasses a range of developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Developmental Disorders, Speech and Language Disorders, Learning Disorders, Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Stereotypic Movement Disorder. This broad focus highlights the initiative’s goal of addressing the diverse needs of people with developmental challenges throughout Qatar.
