The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), conducted a capacity-building workshop focused on enhancing health emergency preparedness through the use of the Strategic Tool for Assessing Risks (STAR). The workshop aimed to train participants in the application of STAR by combining theoretical instruction with practical simulation exercises.
Attendees were guided on identifying and prioritizing health risks, evaluating their likelihood and potential impacts, and using these assessments to support risk-based planning and evidence-informed decision-making. This training is intended to prepare participants to contribute effectively to the forthcoming development of the National Health Risk Profile.
The event brought together representatives from health authorities, government agencies, and other national stakeholders involved in risk assessment and emergency management, fostering multisectoral collaboration and coordination in assessing national health risks.
This workshop represents a preparatory step ahead of a larger national workshop scheduled for November, during which the National Health Risk Profile will be developed. The current phase builds upon the outcomes of previous workshops held by the MoPH in 2022 and 2024. These earlier sessions focused on updating national health risk priorities to reflect evolving challenges and aimed to strengthen the country’s preparedness and response capabilities for health emergencies and disasters.
