Heavy rain and hail swept through parts of the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, notably impacting the northern and eastern regions, as the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued warnings of continuing unsettled weather. The downpours, accompanied by strong winds, affected areas including Sharjah and Fujairah, with local reports of significant rainfall and hail.
In Sharjah, heavy showers were recorded along the Sharjah-Kalba road, with rainfall also reaching Al Madam and Mleiha. Eastern areas saw further instability, as hail was reported in Al Dhaid and Masafi. Fujairah experienced rainwater flowing through mountain streams in Maydaq, illustrating the intensity of precipitation in the country’s mountainous eastern districts.
Following several days of intermittent showers across the northern and eastern emirates, the NCM forecast continued unsettled conditions for Wednesday. Weather patterns are expected to feature fair to partly cloudy skies with convective clouds developing over eastern areas by the afternoon. These cloud formations could extend inland and reach western districts, potentially triggering additional rainfall.
Winds are forecast to come from the southeast to northeast at speeds ranging between 10 and 25 kilometers per hour, with occasional gusts reaching up to 50 kilometers per hour during periods of cloud activity. These stronger winds may contribute to dust being stirred up in some areas. Humidity levels are anticipated to rise overnight and into Thursday morning, with mist potentially forming in coastal and inland locations. Sea conditions in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman are expected to remain slight.
Looking ahead, the NCM projects partly cloudy skies on Thursday, with further chances of rainfall as convective cloud development continues over eastern and western parts of the country during the afternoon. Wind speeds could increase to 40 kilometers per hour, and fog or mist may develop in some coastal regions overnight and early Friday.
By Friday, weather conditions are expected to stabilize somewhat, although convective clouds could still form over eastern areas during the afternoon. Winds may reach up to 35 kilometers per hour, and fog or mist remains possible overnight and into Saturday morning. Temperatures are forecast to gradually decline on Saturday, with skies remaining fair to partly cloudy and a chance of convective clouds in the eastern and northern regions.
