A fire on Saturday evening in Southeast Albuquerque displaced more than a dozen residents and resulted in one person being hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, authorities reported.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR) responded to the blaze at the La Vida Nueva Apartments located in the 1200 block of Dickerson Drive, near Santa Clara and Yale, shortly after 7:27 p.m. Firefighters were informed of trapped residents while en route and were able to rescue two individuals upon arrival. One of the rescued residents was transported to a local hospital for urgent medical care. No injuries were reported among the responding firefighters.
The fire was contained within approximately 15 minutes. However, the incident rendered 16 apartment units uninhabitable, 13 of which were occupied at the time. Apartment management is coordinating with the American Red Cross and other agencies to provide assistance and support to those affected.
Officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire, and an investigation remains ongoing.
