Morecambe secured a 1-1 draw against Spennymoor Town in the National League North season opener on Saturday. The visitors initially took the lead through former Shrimps striker Richie Bennett, who scored in the ninth minute, before Matty Daly converted a penalty early in the second half to equalize for Morecambe.

The match got underway with Spennymoor Town seizing an early advantage. A clearance landed at Bennett’s feet just outside the penalty area, prompting the striker to unleash a powerful volley that was inadvertently deflected into the net by Morecambe defender Lewis Baines. Following the goal, Spennymoor created additional scoring opportunities. Junior Mondal came close to extending the lead when he narrowly missed sliding home a low cross from Rob Ramshaw, and Bennett nearly capitalized on a Mondal cross, but was unable to make decisive contact.
