John Davidson, whose life with Tourette syndrome inspired the film *I Swear*, will watch the upcoming Bafta Scotland awards ceremony remotely from Scotland rather than attending in person. Davidson made this decision following an incident at the Bafta awards in London in February, where he involuntarily uttered a racial slur during the live broadcast while the film won three prizes.

Davidson expressed being “deeply mortified” by the incident, which occurred while the ceremony was hosted by Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo. The broadcast, aired on a two-hour delay, drew criticism after failing to censor the word. The moment highlighted the challenges faced by individuals with Tourette syndrome, a neurological disorder characterized by involuntary movements and vocalizations known as tics.

*I Swear*, a film based on Davidson’s experiences growing up with Tourette syndrome, has been nominated for seven awards at the Bafta Scotland ceremony. The winners will be announced on November 15 during the event scheduled to take place in Glasgow. Davidson’s choice to watch the ceremony via video link reflects his desire to avoid further distress given the sensitivity surrounding the previous incident.
