The Ministry of Transport (MoT) of Qatar sponsored the 4th Qatar Supply Chain Management Conference (SCMC), which was inaugurated by MoT Undersecretary HE Mohammed Abdullah al-Maadeed. The event, held recently, focused on the importance of resilient logistics networks to safeguard the country against future disruptions in supply chains.
Organized by Dar Al Sharq Media Group, the conference provided a platform for industry experts, government officials, and academics to exchange insights on current supply chain challenges and explore innovative solutions. Discussions centered on how modern technologies and integrated strategies can enhance logistics efficiency and resilience, ensuring a steady flow of goods and services amid evolving economic and geopolitical dynamics.
Al-Maadeed emphasized that supply chains have evolved from primarily commercial systems to critical components of national security and crisis management. He noted that traditional approaches prioritizing operational efficiency are no longer sufficient, as recent geopolitical, economic, and health crises have exposed vulnerabilities. Instead, the key focus now is on building supply chains that can withstand, adapt to, and recover from disruptions.
Highlighting the need for a comprehensive national framework, al-Maadeed called for coordinated efforts between public and private sectors to maintain economic continuity and essential services. He also cautioned against over-reliance on single routes, sources, or gateways, describing such dependence as a strategic vulnerability that could jeopardize supply security during crises. Furthermore, he stressed that supply chain resilience is a collective responsibility, with the private sector playing a fundamental role in national economic security.
The conference aligns with Qatar’s broader goals of developing its transportation infrastructure—including ports and airports—and encouraging cross-industry collaboration. These initiatives reflect the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim ben Hamad al-Thani aimed at strengthening economic security and supporting sustainable development.
In addition to al-Maadeed, the conference saw addresses from prominent figures such as former GCC Secretary General Abdulrahman bin Hamad al-Attiyah and Mohammed bin Twar al-Kuwari, first vice-chairman of Qatar Chamber. The program featured three sessions attended by officials from the MoT, as well as representatives from organizations including Mwani Qatar, the Ministry of Municipality, Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar University, the University of Doha for Science and Technology, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Qatar.
