A 36-year-old British woman drowned while attempting to rescue her two children from a strong current during a snorkeling outing in the Bahamas on Tuesday. The family was snorkeling south of the island of Bimini when the two boys became caught in powerful waters. The woman, whose name has not been released, rushed to save them but was herself swept away.

Rescue efforts were led by Linty Stuart, owner of L&A Water Taxi, who was captaining the boat nearby. Stuart described the incident as unfolding rapidly, with large waves complicating the rescue operation. The woman was pulled from the water and CPR was administered at a nearby ferry dock before she was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Both children survived the incident.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the accident, which has prompted concerns about swimming and snorkeling safety in the area known for strong ocean currents. The family had been on a snorkeling expedition with the woman’s husband at the time of the tragedy. The community and first responders have expressed shock at the sudden and tragic event.
