Britagne Miller, a mother of four with a pre-existing blood-clotting disorder, remains hospitalized in critical condition after suffering multiple spider bites while visiting Cheney Reservoir near Wichita, Kansas. The incident occurred on May 28, when Miller was seated by a campfire with her family approximately 35 miles west of Wichita.

Medical staff discovered that the spider bites led to the formation of significant blood clots at the wound site, necessitating the removal of around two ounces of clotted blood. In addition, surgeons placed a drain to assist in the healing process. Despite these measures, Miller’s condition worsened several days later when the wound became infected with a severe staphylococcal infection as well as a gram-negative S-type bacterial infection.

Due to the complications stemming from the bite and subsequent infections, Miller is currently on a waiting list for a liver transplant. Hospital officials have described her condition as life-threatening.

Further details about the species of spider involved have not been confirmed. Authorities have not commented on whether any measures are being taken to investigate or control the spider population at the recreation area. Meanwhile, Miller’s family hopes for her recovery as she remains under close medical supervision.
