Mount Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island in the central Philippines erupted shortly after noon on Saturday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). The agency reported that the eruption began at 12:46 p.m. local time and lasted approximately two minutes.

PHIVOLCS described the event as a "moderately explosive eruption," which produced an ash plume rising between 5 and 6 kilometers above the volcano's crater. Officials indicated that the ashfall from the eruption is expected to move toward the north and northeast directions, potentially affecting communities in those areas.

Mount Kanlaon is an active stratovolcano and one of the Philippines' most monitored volcanoes due to its history of eruptions and the surrounding population density. Authorities continue to observe the volcanic activity closely and have issued advisories to residents and travelers in nearby regions to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols. No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been released in connection with Saturday's eruption.
