Nadhira al Harthy, a prominent Omani mountaineer and national symbol of resilience and adventure, passed away in an avalanche in Pakistan on Thursday. Her funeral took place in Al Mudhairib village in the Wilayat of Al Qabil, located in Oman’s Al Sharqiyah North Governorate, after her body was repatriated early Sunday morning.
The remains of al Harthy arrived in Oman around 6 a.m. and were initially taken to her family home in Al Khuwair, where final rites were observed. Following these ceremonies, her body was transported to her hometown for the funeral prayer and burial.
Al Harthy gained national and international recognition after she planted the Omani flag atop a peak in the Himalayas in 2019, becoming a source of pride for her country.
