Mr. Chow will continue to operate his Tribeca location following a new lease agreement, reversing earlier reports that he would be leaving the site after two decades. The restaurant, situated at 121 Hudson Street and known for its distinctive steel wrap-around terrace, was previously reported to be closing with an Italian chain, Olio e Più, set to take over the space.

Mr. Chow, the renowned restaurateur behind the eponymous dining establishments, confirmed the lease extension himself. He opened his first New York restaurant on 57th Street in 1979 after launching successful venues in London and Beverly Hills. The Midtown location quickly became popular among prominent figures in the arts and entertainment, including Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Madonna, John Lennon, and David Bowie.

In 2006, Mr. Chow expanded downtown by opening the Tribeca restaurant below Canal Street in response to the growing dining scene fueled by the success of establishments like Odeon and Nobu. Now 87 years old, Mr. Chow shared that he has ambitious plans to innovate within the food industry, drawing inspiration from the business model pioneered by Amazon. He described a vision of shifting the traditional man-to-goods process toward a goods-to-man approach for food delivery and service.

He further emphasized his intent to collaborate with other upscale dining and lifestyle brands, citing Goop Kitchen as a potential partner. Goop Kitchen launched a Midtown location in April and plans to open an Upper West Side branch later this year. Neither Olio e Più nor Goop Kitchen have publicly commented on the recent developments.

The continuation of Mr. Chow’s presence in Tribeca is likely to be welcomed by many longtime patrons and followers of the downtown New York restaurant scene.
