Myanmar and Vietnam have agreed to enhance their agricultural cooperation with a focus on rice production and related industries, aiming to foster bilateral trade and investment between the two countries. The commitment was made during the Myanmar-Vietnam Business Forum 2026 held on September 6 at the Melia Hotel in Hanoi.

A delegation from the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF), led by President U Ye Min Aung, attended the forum along with vice-presidents and executive members. During the event, U Ye Min Aung presented a detailed proposal highlighting opportunities for collaboration in the agriculture and fisheries sectors. He underscored the importance of prioritizing a business-to-business rice cooperation plan that would strengthen ties between Myanmar and Vietnam.

Key areas identified for partnership include rice seed production, adoption of modern farming technologies, and the development of rice mills, drying machinery, and storage systems. The two countries also expressed interest in advancing value-added processing of agricultural products, reflecting a shared focus on enhancing food production and expanding agricultural value chains.

Vietnam representatives indicated a strong inclination to invest in Myanmar’s agriculture sector, specifically mentioning opportunities in food processing and other industries that add value to raw agricultural commodities. Both parties agreed on the need to translate the discussions held at the forum into concrete business initiatives aimed at boosting trade and mutual investment.

The forum demonstrated a mutual recognition of agriculture as a significant area for economic collaboration, with the aim of leveraging each country’s strengths to promote sustainable growth and development in their respective agricultural sectors.
