The Senaru hiking route to Mount Rinjani in West Nusa Tenggara has reopened following a period of closure due to a forest fire, the Mount Rinjani National Park Agency announced. The agency confirmed that the fire, which began on September 22 at Setampol Hill in the Torean resort area, has been fully extinguished.

Astekita Ardiarsito, an official with the park agency, stated that the route was reopened on Saturday after coordinated firefighting efforts and a joint safety evaluation involving multiple stakeholders. The reopening was contingent on confirming that the blaze was extinguished and ensuring that hiking facilities and infrastructure were safe for visitors. Hikers can now register to use the route through an online system.

The fire affected approximately 1,098 hectares of the area by September 29. Despite the reopening, the agency continues to monitor the site through drone surveillance and patrols to guard against any potential flare-ups.

With the Senaru route back in operation, five hiking routes on Mount Rinjani are currently open to the public, providing multiple access points for visitors to the popular destination. Park officials emphasize ongoing vigilance to maintain safety and protect the natural environment as outdoor activities resume.
