A British woman remains stranded in Tenerife after giving birth prematurely while on holiday. Chantelle Ali, 33, delivered her son Rico five weeks early on July 12, the final day of her trip with partner Ben Major. Rico is currently receiving intensive care for respiratory issues.

Although the hospital stay is covered by insurance, Chantelle and her partner face additional expenses, including £400 per week for accommodation and lengthy bus journeys to reach shops. Communication has been challenging, as only a few medical staff at the hospital speak English, prompting Chantelle to rely on translation apps.

The family is awaiting the issuance of an emergency travel document for Rico to enable their return to the United Kingdom. In the meantime, the charity Lia’s Wings, which specializes in organizing hospital air transfers for children, has been providing support. The organization stated that once the necessary paperwork is finalized, a medical escort team will be arranged to ensure a safe journey home.
