A rabbi from Agoura Hills has been charged with murder following the death of a man in the parking lot of a Costco gas station in Camarillo, California. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office reported that it responded to a call on October 20 regarding a man who had been struck by a vehicle near the gas pumps at the Costco location.

The victim was identified in court records as 28-year-old Nicholas Lang, a resident of Modesto. Emergency responders transported Lang to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. As of Friday evening, the Ventura County medical examiner’s office had not released details on the cause or manner of Lang’s death.

Witnesses at the scene directed deputies to Abba Bryski, the driver involved in the incident, who was detained and subsequently arrested. Bryski was booked into Ventura County Jail early Wednesday morning on charges including felony murder and resisting, obstructing, or delaying an officer. According to the criminal complaint, the vehicle used—a 2017 Infiniti Q60 coupe—was listed as a “deadly and dangerous” weapon. Bryski’s occupation is recorded as “Educator/Rabbi” in jail records. He is currently being held without bail.

Details surrounding the circumstances leading to Bryski’s arrest have not been immediately disclosed, and his attorney was unavailable for comment on Friday evening.

The Camarillo Costco warehouse is scheduled to open to shoppers on Friday, but the gas station has been operational since May. It remains unclear whether the incident will impact the store’s opening. Costco representatives have not responded to requests for comment.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes Bureau is conducting a homicide investigation. Authorities have requested that anyone with information about the incident contact Detective Erik Hernandez at (805) 384-4729 or Detective Gerardo Cruz at (805) 384-4726.
