Greater Manchester Police have opened a murder investigation after a man died following an assault in Rochdale early on Saturday morning. Officers responded to reports of an attack on South Parade at approximately 1:30 a.m., where they found a 52-year-old man unconscious.

The victim was transported to a hospital for emergency treatment but succumbed to his injuries later the same day. The man’s family is receiving support from specialist officers as the investigation progresses.

Police established a cordon in the vicinity, covering parts of King Street and Fleece Street near the scene. Two men have been detained and remain in police custody for questioning in connection with the incident.
