A murder investigation is underway after a general practitioner was found dead at her home while hosting a children’s sleepover in Dersingham, Norfolk. Hannah Cain, in her 40s and also known professionally as Dr. Hannah Terry, was discovered in the early hours of Sunday. A man, also in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.
Ms. Cain worked at a surgery in nearby Grimston and was also involved with Norfolk Sky Aesthetics, a business providing cosmetic treatments. The surgery closed on Monday, with staff citing “extremely difficult circumstances affecting our practice team” as the reason.
Neighbors described Ms. Cain as a well-regarded member of the community who had lived in the area for about ten years. She had three young children who were hosting friends at the time of the incident. Following the police response, the other children were returned safely to their families. The house, a detached property valued at approximately £800,000 and located about a mile from the King’s Sandringham estate, remained cordoned off by police on Monday, with an access road also closed.
Emergency services, including forensics and special operations officers, were present at the scene. Residents expressed shock and sadness over the incident. One local described Ms. Cain as “a lovely human being” and said, “Something’s obviously gone very badly wrong.”
Norfolk Police confirmed that the arrested individual was taken to King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre for questioning. Authorities have applied to Great Yarmouth Magistrates’ Court for an extended detention warrant, which would allow them an additional 32 hours to question the suspect. The investigation remains ongoing.
