Andy Murray and his wife Kim have unveiled the results of a comprehensive three-year refurbishment of their Cromlix hotel, located near Dunblane in Stirling. The country house hotel, set on 34 acres of countryside, reopens this month with an emphasis on relaxation, wellness, and a renewed connection to its pastoral surroundings.
The Murrays acquired the Victorian-era property in 2013, shortly before Andy Murray became the first Briton in 77 years to win the Wimbledon men’s singles title. Since then, they have undertaken careful renovations to transform Cromlix’s atmosphere and amenities to reflect both their personal tastes and the character of the local environment. The redesign was a collaborative effort between Kim Murray and interior designer Suzanne Garuda, who had previously worked on the couple’s Surrey residence.
The updates include new décor throughout the hotel’s common areas, bar, sitting rooms, and guest bedrooms, blending vibrant floral fabrics, colored velvets, and striking artwork from contemporary artists such as Damien Hirst. The interiors are intended to bring the essence of the Stirling countryside indoors, while encouraging guests to engage with the natural landscape outside.
A key addition is the Woodland Retreat, a separate wellness space conceptualized and led by Kim Murray. Situated a short walk from the main building, the retreat eschews typical spa features such as pools, thermal suites, and gyms. Instead, it offers a tranquil, private setting designed primarily for solo relaxation, with a focus on massage therapies and nature immersion. The retreat’s rustic aesthetic includes exposed stone walls, wooden beams, pressed flower displays, and muted earth tones.
Wellness treatments at the Woodland Retreat include a Bamford Signature Massage incorporating Japanese, Swedish, and Indian techniques with ethically sourced rosemary oil, as well as a holistic experience featuring breathwork, meditation, and specialized body balms by the Edinburgh-based skincare company MODM.
Guests can also take advantage of the estate’s natural features, with a boardwalk leading to a small lochan where a barrel sauna and plunge pool provide facilities for contrast therapy amid a backdrop of silver birch and ash trees and local wildlife.
The hotel’s culinary offerings have expanded with the addition of two new on-site restaurants. The intimate Cradle restaurant, with seating for 16, serves a tasting menu emphasizing local and seasonal ingredients, including West Coast scallops, North Coast turbot, and Borders lamb. The family-friendly Garden Room features large windows overlooking the grounds and offers a diverse menu catering to a range of tastes, from cheese soufflés to spiced roasted cauliflower salads.
The Murrays’ rejuvenation of Cromlix aims to balance understated country charm with contemporary comfort, reflecting their personal journey and connection to the region. Rates for bed and breakfast start at approximately £445 for double rooms.
