Muscat Municipality has formalized a contract for the Al Nuzha Street dual carriageway project located in Al Maabela South, within the Wilayat of Al Seeb. The agreement was signed on Monday by Eng Ahmed bin Said al Amri, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, alongside representatives of the contracting firm tasked with the project’s execution. Construction is set to begin within the current month.
This initiative represents a strategic effort to upgrade the road network in Muscat Governorate, addressing the challenges posed by rapid urban expansion and increasing traffic demand. The project involves the development of an 11-kilometre dual carriageway designed to improve traffic flow by adding lanes to accommodate higher vehicle volumes.
Complementing the main carriageway, the project will include the construction of 3.5 kilometres of service roads. These are intended to enhance local accessibility for adjacent areas and facilities along the route. To further optimize traffic management, six major intersections along the corridor will be equipped with advanced intelligent traffic signal systems. These technologies aim to streamline vehicle movement, decrease waiting times, and improve overall road safety.
Infrastructure resilience is also a key component of the project. It will incorporate an integrated stormwater drainage system featuring multi-cell box culverts, drainage channels, and lateral roadside drainage components. These measures are designed to enhance the road’s durability and ensure efficient surface water management during adverse weather conditions.
In addition, the project includes the installation of a modern street lighting system utilizing energy-efficient lamps, contributing to improved visibility and energy conservation. Collectively, these upgrades are expected to significantly enhance transportation infrastructure and support sustainable urban development in the region.
