Western Sydney federal Labor MP Ed Husic has taken a short leave from his parliamentary duties after being injured in a multi-vehicle collision on a Sydney motorway on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred on the M7 while Mr. Husic was driving home from work at approximately 80 km/h.

According to reports, Mr. Husic’s Tesla sedan was rear-ended by a B-double truck, with a utility vehicle also involved in the crash. Emergency services attended the scene, and paramedics transported Mr. Husic to Westmead Hospital for assessment and treatment. He was discharged the following day with minor abrasions, fractures, and a concussion.

Mr. Husic was not at fault in the collision and is cooperating with police by providing a statement. In a public statement on Thursday, he expressed gratitude for escaping more serious injuries and thanked the medical staff and emergency responders for their care. He also thanked family and friends for their support during his recovery.

Following medical advice, Mr. Husic will take a brief period away from his parliamentary role to recuperate. The MP for Chifley has served as a former industry minister but was not retained in the cabinet following the Labor Party’s re-election last year, attributing his removal to internal party dynamics.

Police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, which caused no reported injuries to the other drivers involved.
