The study highlights concerns that AI is contributing to the marginalization of artists by altering how music is distributed, promoted, and consumed across various digital platforms.

The research examined the integration of AI in music-streaming services, online ticket sales for concerts, and social media content related to music. It found that AI algorithms often prioritize automated or AI-generated content, which can reduce the visibility and opportunities available to human musicians. This shift, the researchers argue, is squeezing artists out of traditional channels and limiting their ability to reach audiences.

One key aspect of the study focused on music-streaming platforms, where AI-driven recommendation systems are used to personalize user experiences. While these algorithms aim to improve listener engagement, they can inadvertently favor tracks produced or promoted using AI tools, thereby sidelining independent or less digitally optimized musicians. Similarly, in the domain of concert ticket sales, AI is employed to optimize pricing and distribution, but it may also favor major acts with extensive digital footprints, making it harder for emerging artists to gain exposure.

Social media was another area under scrutiny. The study noted that AI-generated music content and AI-assisted promotion techniques can dominate feeds and streaming suggestions, overshadowing human creators. Researchers expressed concern that this dynamic threatens to reduce diversity in musical expression and undermine the role of musicians as cultural contributors.
