A woman has publicly shared her experience of coercion and manipulation by her husband, who secretly posted intimate photographs of her on a swingers’ website and pressured her into sexual encounters with multiple strangers during their marriage. The woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous and refers to her husband as Ben, described a pattern of emotional abuse and coercion that unfolded following their wedding and honeymoon in Tuscany.
The couple married when she was 22 and he was 30, after a brief courtship. Initially, the relationship appeared romantic, with her husband demonstrating what she believed was affection and support, particularly given her difficult childhood marked by familial abuse and estrangement from her parents. However, six months after their wedding, Ben revealed he had uploaded photos of her naked from their honeymoon onto a swingers’ website called FabSwingers, without her knowledge or consent. The site, active since 2006, reportedly hosts over half a million active UK members.
Her husband, who identified his interest as a "hot wife" fetish, began encouraging her to engage in sexual activity with other men, initially suggesting casual meetings but escalating to regular sexual encounters while he observed. Over an 18-month period, she was coerced into having sex with approximately 15 men, often under emotional pressure and while intoxicated. Though she consented verbally, she later described this compliance as a response to fear and exhaustion rather than genuine willingness.
The woman likened her experience to other high-profile cases of husbands sexually exploiting their wives, some involving drugging and multiple offences. However, she highlighted that coercion without drugs remains a form of abuse that is often overlooked. According to a recent investigation cited by the woman, which followed another account of an ex-husband pressuring his wife into sexual encounters with more than 100 men, at least 50 other women reported similar experiences.
Attempts to resist her husband’s demands were met with coldness and repeated emotional manipulation. She noted that despite not actively participating in the encounters, her husband maintained control over the selection of partners and the circumstances, turning the interactions into a display of his power rather than shared sexual exploration. The woman also reported that some encounters were filmed by her husband, further intensifying her feelings of violation.
Her eventual escape from the relationship was facilitated by one of the men she was coerced to meet, who recognized her distress and encouraged her to leave. Upon deciding to leave, she sought assistance from a domestic abuse charity and filed for divorce on grounds of unreasonable behaviour, which her husband did not contest.
FabSwingers, the website involved, issued a statement emphasizing its commitment to preventing intimate image abuse, outlining policies that require users to upload images only of themselves and providing a reporting system for unauthorized content.
Since leaving the abusive marriage, the woman has pursued higher education and a career in social work, becoming a board member of a domestic abuse charity. She has remade her life with a supportive partner and is now raising two children. Reflecting on her experience, she underscored the importance of recognizing coercion and consent, stressing that respect in relationships requires honoring a partner’s boundaries without pressure or manipulation.
