India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, met with Myanmar’s President U Min Aung Hlaing in New Delhi on May 30 as part of the latter’s official visit to India. The two leaders held discussions focused on advancing bilateral ties and enhancing strategic cooperation between their countries.

During the meeting, Jaishankar and U Min Aung Hlaing exchanged views on the current state of friendly relations and explored avenues to further strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors. Key topics on the agenda included Myanmar’s upcoming multiparty democratic general election, as well as ongoing development initiatives, trade, defense, and security collaboration.

The discussions also addressed efforts to maintain peace and stability along the shared border between India and Myanmar. Both sides underscored the importance of continued partnership to support regional security and economic growth.

The delegation from Myanmar included Union Ministers U Khin Maung Yi and U Tin Maung Swe, along with senior officials and Myanmar’s Ambassador to India. The Indian Minister was accompanied by India’s Ambassador to Myanmar, Shri Abhay Thakur, and other officials.

This meeting reflects the two countries’ intent to deepen engagement amidst evolving regional dynamics and shared interests in development and security.
