The Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) announced plans to develop a long-term initiative aimed at promoting football within schools across the country, with the goal of fostering a safe school environment through football-related activities. This effort will be conducted in collaboration with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
The announcement followed the first meeting of the ASEAN-FIFA Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Implementation Working Group, held recently in Siem Reap, Cambodia. U Si Thu Win, Joint General Secretary of the MFF, represented Myanmar at the gathering, which focused on reviewing current programmes and planning future initiatives.
During the meeting, participants discussed ongoing projects including the Football for Schools (F4S) and FIFA Arena programmes, both of which are part of broader efforts to increase football participation and development at the grassroots level. In coordination with Myanmar’s Ministry of Sports Affairs, the MFF proposed establishing a comprehensive project titled “Creating a Safe Environment in Schools through Football Activities.” This initiative seeks to use football as a means to promote safety and positive social environments within educational settings.
Representatives from the Department of Sports and Physical Education under the Ministry of Sports also took part in the meeting, joining remotely via online connection. The collaboration between football governing bodies and national sports authorities underscores a concerted effort to leverage sport as a tool for youth development and school engagement throughout Myanmar.
