Myanmar authorities have handed over three Thai nationals wanted for drug-related offenses to Thai law enforcement officials, according to the Myanmar Police Force. The individuals, identified as Mr. Boy Lueansiri, Ms. Kulapom Makvemal, and Mrs. Chonlanat (also known as Budsanee Insuwan), were arrested in the border town of Tachilek in northern Shan State. Arrests took place on July 11 and 17 by a joint operation involving the Drug Enforcement Division and local Shan State police.

Following their apprehension, the suspects were ordered to be deported under Section 7(2) of Myanmar’s Immigration (Emergency Provisions) Act. They were formally transferred to a Thai delegation led by Police Major Suriya Singhakamol, Secretary-General of Thailand’s Office of the Narcotics Control Board, at the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge I on September 10.

In a separate but related action, Myanmar authorities also deported six other Thai nationals from Tachilek. These individuals were wanted in connection with drug offenses or other crimes, or had been residing in the area without valid documentation. The deportees were handed over to Thai immigration officials.

These transfers were conducted under the bilateral Myanmar-Thailand cooperation framework aimed at drug control. This cross-border collaboration promotes the sharing of intelligence, the arrest of suspects, and the transfer of offenders who attempt to evade justice by crossing the international boundary. Both governments anticipate that the enhanced cooperation will strengthen joint efforts to combat drug trafficking and other forms of transnational crime along their shared border.
