The Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) has supplied over 26,000 litres of drinking water to residents affected by recent flooding in Laymyethna Township, located in the Ayeyawady Region. This relief effort has reached more than 1,000 individuals in the flood-hit area as of September 9.

The MRCS Health Department’s Water and Environmental Sanitation Team has been actively involved in delivering safe drinking water to communities in Wards 1, 2, and 3, as well as Sitgon Village within the township. Alongside the water distribution, the team has provided 40 collapsible water containers to aid in storage and transportation at the household level.

Officials indicated that the distribution initiative is ongoing, with plans to extend assistance to other wards and villages impacted by flooding. The initiative aims to address immediate water needs amid concerns over potential contamination of local water sources due to floodwaters.

The relief operation is part of the MRCS’s broader response to mitigate the humanitarian impact of seasonal floods in the Ayeyawady Region, which often disrupt access to clean water, posing health risks to vulnerable populations.
