Myanmar is set to host its first major game industry awards ceremony, the Myanmar Game Awards (MGA), on August 9 at the Rose Garden Hotel in Yangon. The event, organized by Game Makers Myanmar in partnership with the French Institute of Myanmar (IFB), aims to celebrate local game developers and promote connections with international studios.
The MGA will honor the best video games produced between 2016 and 2026, recognizing excellence within the country's growing game development community. In addition to the awards ceremony, attendees will have the chance to engage with a panel of judges composed of both local and international industry experts. This interaction is designed to open pathways for employment and collaboration opportunities, particularly for young professionals in the sector.
An Expo Zone will open at noon during the event, featuring playable demos of newly released Myanmar-made games alongside showcases from game studios. The area will also include meet-and-greet sessions with Myanmar’s PUBG and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) esports teams, which recently competed at the Esports World Cup. Other highlights include a dedicated cosplay area and career booths aimed at fostering industry growth and networking.
Game submissions for the awards were accepted until midnight on August 3, with the list of nominees scheduled to be announced on August 5. Organizers have also made sponsorship and partner booth opportunities available to enhance participation and support for the event.
By bringing together developers, gamers, and industry players, the Myanmar Game Awards seeks to boost the nation’s profile in the global gaming landscape and encourage the continued development of its interactive entertainment industry.
