Myanmar’s tourism sector is showing signs of gradual recovery, according to industry sources, as foreign arrivals begin to increase. Daw Le Le Mon, manager for domestic ticketing and reservations at Unique Asia Travels and Tours, noted that visitors from Thailand and China constitute the majority of foreign tourists, with additional travelers arriving from Russia, Germany, and the United States.

Bagan remains the top destination for international tourists, who are drawn to Myanmar’s rich ancient culture and natural landscapes. To enhance appeal, the tourism industry has focused on offering more competitive hotel rates and expanding transportation options, including the introduction of new train routes.

Tour operators are also planning to incorporate cultural activities like Myanmar handicrafts and traditional paintings into their packages, aiming to provide visitors with more immersive and memorable experiences. Some tours now offer breakfast and dinner to improve overall travel convenience and satisfaction.

Alongside inbound tourism, there has been a noticeable rise in outbound travel among local residents. Many Myanmar nationals are traveling to Thailand for various reasons, including medical treatment, education, and business purposes.

These developments highlight efforts within the country’s tourism sector to adapt and attract a wider range of visitors as regional and global travel gradually resumes.
