Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been cleared to return to competitive football following the resolution of his doping ban appeal. The 25-year-old Ukrainian’s suspension was lifted after the Football Association (FA) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) reached an agreement concerning his case.

Mudryk was initially handed a four-year ban in 2024 after testing positive for a low concentration of meldonium, a substance on WADA’s prohibited list. The Football Association confirmed that Mudryk accepted the anti-doping rule violation charges and that the period of ineligibility he served has been deemed sufficient. As a result, he is now eligible to resume playing immediately.

The winger disputed the original ban by appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and subsequent revisions to WADA’s procedures regarding meldonium testing played a significant role in the case’s outcome. Under current regulations, the concentration found in Mudryk’s sample would not have resulted in disciplinary action.

Mudryk transferred from Shakhtar Donetsk to Chelsea in 2023 for a reported £62 million. Prior to the suspension, he appeared in 73 matches for the club and scored nine goals. Chelsea issued a statement expressing support for Mudryk's return and emphasised their commitment to assisting him as he reintegrates into the squad and continues his career.

In a message posted to Instagram, Mudryk said the lifting of the ban ended “the most difficult period” of his professional life and expressed gratitude that the matter has reached a conclusion, allowing him to resume playing.
