The Northern Territory government has allocated $350,000 to the Larrakia Nation to support NAIDOC Week celebrations across the Top End, marking the 50th anniversary of the national event. NAIDOC Week runs from July 5 to 12, with this year’s theme centering on “50 Years of Deadly.”

The series of events begin in Darwin on July 5 with the Deadly Cup Rugby League Carnival at Richardson Park and a double film screening at Brown’s Mart. On July 6, a flag-raising ceremony and breakfast will take place at Tamarind Park on Larrakia Country, starting at 7:30 a.m.

Throughout the week, the program features various activities including an Indigenous business breakfast in Cullen Bay scheduled for July 7, a Danila Dilba family day at Karu Park on July 8, and the Darwin Gala Ball and awards ceremony on July 11. Palmerston will host events at Goyder Square on July 7.

In Alice Springs, celebrations include a NAIDOC march and community day on July 6, a fun run on July 8, an open day at the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress on July 9, a skate and music festival on July 10, and the Mparntwe NAIDOC Ball on July 11. The 2026 National Awards ceremony will also take place in Alice Springs on August 15, with finalists announced during NAIDOC Week.

In Katherine, family-focused activities are planned, including a family fun day at Kalano Sports Oval on July 8, followed by a NAIDOC march and community barbecue at O’Shea Park on July 10, and a closing ceremony on July 12 at the Katherine Town Council Lawns.

Tennant Creek’s events include a Deadly Cultural Day on July 7, an Elders lunch on July 8, and a street march coupled with the official opening of the recently upgraded Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Cultural Centre on July 9. The centre received a $10 million government-funded renovation.

Meanwhile, the East Arnhem Regional Council is coordinating events at Yirrkala and Gunyangara from July 5 through 7. Football NT will bring players from Ali Curung and Newcastle Waters to participate in the NAIDOC Cup soccer carnival held at Darwin Football Stadium in Marrara on July 11 and 12.

These events collectively highlight the rich cultural heritage and achievements of Indigenous Australians across the Northern Territory during this significant 50th anniversary year.
