Nama Water Services has reached 67 percent completion on the third phase of its wastewater network expansion project in Suhar, Oman, marking significant progress in a RO 19 million initiative aimed at enhancing wastewater infrastructure in Al Batinah North Governorate. The project supports urban development, environmental sustainability, and aligns with the broader objectives outlined in Oman Vision 2040.
The expansion encompasses several areas within Suhar, including Al Hambar, Ghail Al Shabul, Al Tarif, Al Waqiba, Al Sabara, Al Shizaw, and Al Hazeera. Upon completion, the upgraded system is expected to improve wastewater collection and treatment capabilities, bolster network reliability, and facilitate ongoing residential, commercial, and economic growth in the region.
This infrastructure effort is part of Nama Water’s strategic plan to develop a more robust and sustainable wastewater system equipped to meet future demands while enhancing quality of life and infrastructure resilience. The project has also contributed approximately RO 1.5 million in local economic value by engaging Omani companies and experts, underscoring Nama’s commitment to supporting local content and maximizing economic returns from public investments.
Engineer Mohammed bin Harib al Makhmari, General Manager of Sector Projects Implementation for Al Batinah North Governorate, characterized the initiative as a vital step toward modernizing essential urban services. He highlighted its role in fostering environmental sustainability and preparing the region for future population and economic expansion in line with Oman’s national development vision.
Project Manager Engineer Mohammed al Muqbali confirmed that construction is proceeding according to schedule and adheres to international quality and safety standards. The integrated wastewater system includes a network of sewage pipelines, pumping stations, vacuum systems, and upgrades to existing facilities designed to enhance both operational efficiency and system reliability.
The first phase of the project involved installing 40 kilometers of sewage pipelines, a 3-kilometer vacuum network, 3 kilometers of pumping lines, as well as constructing and upgrading key pumping and lift stations in Al Tarif, Ghail Al Shabul, and Al Hambar, among others. This phase is expected to conclude by the second quarter of 2027.
The second phase will focus on connecting 3,432 residential, commercial, and governmental properties to the wastewater network, linked to the expanded treatment plant. Completion of this phase is projected for the second quarter of 2028, further enhancing wastewater management capacity in Suhar.
