The government of Bangladesh has placed Dulal Krishna Saha, the chief chemical examiner at the Department of Narcotics Control’s (DNC) Central Chemical Laboratory, into compulsory retirement following allegations of embezzling more than Tk3.15 lakh in public funds. The funds were reportedly obtained through the submission of forged bills.
A notification issued by Manzur Morshed Chowdhury, senior secretary of the Discipline-3 branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs, indicated that the decision was made under an order from the President. Following the retirement order, Saha has been reassigned to the DNC’s divisional chemical laboratory located in Sylhet.
The official notification detailed that Saha, while serving at the Dhaka-based Central Chemical Laboratory, allegedly engaged in a prolonged scheme involving the fabrication of summons and testimony certificates related to various district courts nationwide. These false documents were then used to submit fraudulent bills to government authorities, allowing Saha to withdraw public funds despite not appearing as a witness in the courts as claimed.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has taken these administrative measures as part of efforts to uphold integrity and accountability within the Department of Narcotics Control. No further details have been disclosed regarding potential criminal proceedings or investigations related to the case.
