Kuwait’s Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) has been appointed to lead two of the three thematic working groups within the United Nations Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GlobE Network), marking a significant advancement in the country’s role in international anti-corruption efforts.
Nazaha won the chairmanship of the network’s first thematic working group, which concentrates on information exchange, through an election by acclamation. This appointment followed closely on the heels of another election, in which the authority secured 91 percent of the vote to lead the third working group, dedicated to the sharing of knowledge and expertise among members.
The authority described these dual leadership roles as an important step in enhancing Kuwait’s contribution to global anti-corruption cooperation. Anwar Al-Qadiri, Acting Director of Nazaha’s International Cooperation Department, characterized the consecutive elections as a “double achievement” that underscores the international community’s confidence in Kuwait’s national capabilities and commitment to combating corruption at a global level.
Al-Qadiri emphasized that the appointments carry significant responsibility to bolster efforts and achieve tangible outcomes. She noted that this milestone represents a strategic transformation for Nazaha, moving beyond participation and knowledge exchange to assuming decisive leadership in shaping international initiatives and frameworks for collaborative anti-corruption action.
The GlobE Network, comprising approximately 256 law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies from 137 countries, facilitates enhanced cooperation through its Secure Communication Platform. This platform allows direct information sharing, expediting cross-border collaboration to intensify global measures against corruption. Nazaha’s new leadership positions within the network are expected to strengthen Kuwait’s influence and effectiveness in these collective efforts.
