A delegation from the National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) recently concluded its participation in the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, held from October 12 to 18 in Bangkok, Thailand. The attendance underscores NBK’s ongoing commitment to engaging in global economic and financial forums and maintaining an active role in international economic dialogue.
The NBK delegation was led by Vice Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer Isam Al-Sager, accompanied by Chief Executive Officer Salah Al-Fulaij, Deputy Chief Executive Officer Sulaiman Al-Marzouq, CEO of the International Banking Group Omar Bouhadiba, Head of Financial Institutions Khaled Al-Sayer, and Head of Digital Communications Abdul Mohsen Al-Rushaid.
During the meetings, NBK participated in a reception organized by the Kuwait Banking Association at Capella Bangkok, hosted under the patronage of Basel Al-Haroon, Governor of the Central Bank of Kuwait. The event gathered banking leaders, heads of Kuwaiti banks, Arab central bank governors, and senior international officials to discuss key economic issues and strengthen cooperation. Additionally, the Kuwaiti delegation was honored at a luncheon hosted by Dr. Mishal Al-Mansour, Kuwait’s Ambassador to Thailand, at the InterContinental Bangkok, providing further opportunities for dialogue on financial and economic matters.
On the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank meetings, NBK representatives engaged in the GCC-Asia Economic Forum, organized by the Kuwait Banking Association. The forum focused on enhancing economic and investment ties between Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Asian markets, identifying avenues for collaboration in finance and trade, and addressing current global economic challenges.
Throughout the Annual Meetings, NBK attended a series of sessions that brought together senior economic and financial decision-makers to discuss major global developments, financial market trends, the banking sector’s future, and prospects for economic growth and financial stability. The delegation also held bilateral meetings with senior officials and representatives of international financial institutions to explore cooperation opportunities and exchange views on regional and global economic issues.
Their participation extended to key gatherings such as the annual G30 seminar, which convenes central bank governors, financial executives, academics, and economists to debate critical monetary and financial topics, and the Institute of International Finance (IIF) Annual Membership Meeting, where discussions centered on financial stability, economic policies, and the challenges facing the global financial sector.
The IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings are recognized as among the largest international forums focused on economic and financial matters. This year’s agenda featured discussions on the global economic outlook, financial stability, governance reforms to bolster economic growth and social inclusion, and challenges confronting financial markets amid rapid economic change. Key committees and groups, including the Development Committee, the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC), the Group of Ten (G10), and the Group of Twenty-Four (G24), convened alongside numerous seminars and specialized sessions covering pressing development issues.
By participating annually in these meetings, NBK demonstrates its commitment to staying aligned with global economic trends, reinforcing relationships with international financial bodies, and adopting best practices to support banking service advancement. This engagement also aims to promote economic development and financial stability in Kuwait and the wider region. NBK operates across 13 countries on four continents and holds a strong credit standing, rated highly by Moody’s, Fitch Ratings, and S&P Global Ratings, reflecting its prominent position in the Middle East’s banking sector.
