KUWAIT CITY — The National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) honored the late Kuwaiti actress Hayat Al-Fahad on Monday with the screening of a documentary celebrating her extensive career and humanitarian efforts spanning more than six decades. The event coincided with the reopening of Kuwait’s Al-Desma Theatre, which recently underwent comprehensive renovations.
The documentary, titled “A Story of Life,” was produced by NCCAL under the patronage of Secretary-General Mohammad Al-Jassar and overseen by Assistant Secretary-General for Financial, Administrative and Supporting Technical Affairs Musaed Al-Zamel. Directed by Dr. Ali Hassan and prepared by Bader Al-Jazzaf, the 50-minute film provides an overview of Al-Fahad’s artistic and personal milestones as well as her impact on the cultural landscape of Kuwait and the Gulf region.
During the ceremony, Al-Jassar emphasized that the tribute serves as recognition of Al-Fahad’s enduring influence on Kuwaiti and Gulf audiences. He described her as a vital figure who contributed significantly to enriching the region’s artistic scene and bolstering Kuwait’s reputation as a center of cultural innovation. Al-Jassar noted that Al-Fahad was more than just an actress; she was a committed artist and a genuine voice reflecting societal concerns through her work.
“The documentary goes beyond a mere review of her achievements,” Al-Jassar said. “It offers a visual narrative of the origins and growth of Kuwaiti and Gulf drama, highlighting the cultural and artistic shifts over the decades.”
Al-Zamel echoed these sentiments, calling Al-Fahad one of the prominent figures in the arts within Kuwait and the Gulf region. He said the screening was a heartfelt tribute to her remarkable career and lasting contributions, underlining the deep respect and admiration she commands in the artistic community.
The event not only celebrated Al-Fahad’s legacy but also marked a cultural milestone with the revitalization of Al-Desma Theatre, reinforcing Kuwait’s commitment to nurturing the arts and preserving its cultural heritage.
