The National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking (NCCHT) and the Qatar Lawyers Association have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening the protection and legal support for victims of human trafficking in Qatar. The agreement seeks to enhance victims' access to legal counsel and representation, thereby safeguarding their rights and facilitating their access to justice.
Under the terms of the MoU, both organizations will intensify cooperation to uphold the human dignity of trafficking victims in legal and judicial processes. They will also pool their expertise and resources to improve the delivery of legal aid services. A key focus of the initiative is to develop the legal aid system while empowering not only victims of human trafficking but also other vulnerable groups and low-income individuals who may face barriers to accessing justice.
The MoU establishes a framework for regular consultations between the NCCHT and the Qatar Lawyers Association. These consultations are designed to monitor the implementation of agreed measures, assess progress, and exchange information and expertise on shared concerns. Additionally, the agreement sets out regulations governing the provision of legal assistance by law firms affiliated with the Qatar Lawyers Association, ensuring that victims receive necessary legal protections.
This collaboration forms part of the NCCHT’s broader strategy to combat and ultimately eradicate human trafficking in all its forms. The committee’s efforts involve partnerships with various public and private sector entities aimed at strengthening nationwide measures against trafficking. The agreement with the Qatar Lawyers Association marks a notable step toward bolstering the legal support framework for victims and vulnerable populations within the country.
