The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has released its climate summary for May, noting a gradual rise in air temperatures across the United Arab Emirates as the sun’s apparent position moves northward. This seasonal shift results in longer daylight hours in the northern hemisphere, contributing to a steady increase in temperatures throughout much of the country during the month.

The NCM highlighted that the influence of the Siberian high-pressure system diminishes in May, while the region becomes more susceptible to low-pressure systems approaching from the east and west. When these systems coincide with extensions of westerly upper-air troughs, increased cloud cover and occasional rainfall may occur.

Humidity levels experience a slight decline compared to April, particularly in the latter half of May. Early in the month, fog and mist are occasionally observed across scattered areas, with these phenomena becoming less frequent as the month progresses.

Based on historical data, mean air temperatures in May range from 30.6°C to 33.6°C, while average maximum temperatures fall between 37.3°C and 40.7°C. Minimum temperatures typically vary from 24.3°C to 26.8°C. The highest recorded temperature in May reached 51.6°C in Sweihan in 2025, and the lowest minimum temperature was 9°C at Jebel Jais in 2005.

Wind conditions during May show a mean speed of 13 km/h, though extremes have been recorded, including a maximum gust of 117.2 km/h at Jabal Mebreh in 2010. Relative humidity averages 39 percent across the month, with maximum values ranging from 54 to 82 percent and minimum values between 14 and 22 percent.

Historical records indicate that May 2021 experienced the highest fog frequency with four foggy days and ten misty days, while the greatest precipitation amount for the month was logged as 134.4 mm in Al Fali in 1981.
