Scott Mason has resigned as manager of Parkgate, a Northern Counties East League club, after more than four years leading the team. Mason’s tenure saw the Steelmen earn promotion to the Premier Division in 2024 and secure the League Cup title, marking a period of relative success and stability for the club.
The decision to step down came shortly after Parkgate suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat against Golcar United on Tuesday, which left the team positioned second from bottom in the league standings. This setback appears to have influenced Mason’s choice to depart.
Known by his nickname “Nebsy,” Mason expressed gratitude for his time with the club, highlighting the dedication he invested both on and off the pitch. He stated that he devoted significant effort over his tenure, encompassing countless hours managing team affairs and matchday responsibilities.
Mason also indicated a desire to step back and focus on personal matters after a demanding period with Parkgate. “It’s now time for me to recharge my batteries, take a breather for a little while and concentrate on life outside of Parkgate,” he said.
Reflecting on his experience, Mason emphasized his affection for the club and its supporters, thanking them for their support throughout his management period. He described Parkgate as a meaningful chapter in his career and indicated the club will always hold a “special place” in his heart.
The club has yet to announce a successor or outline plans for the managerial role moving forward, leaving supporters and stakeholders awaiting further updates on the future direction of Parkgate.
