Needham Market and Anstey Nomads played out a 1-1 draw in a match that maintained the competitive tension in the playoff race. The encounter took place on Sunday, with both sides sharing the spoils after a tightly contested game.
Anstey Nomads struck first, taking the lead early through Kevin Bastos. The goal came just 10 minutes into the match, when Oscar Tonge advanced down the field and delivered a low cross that Bastos expertly converted. Despite conceding, Needham Market responded quickly and equalized in the 32nd minute. After sustained possession involving several players, Liam Pearce found Kyle Hammond, who finished decisively into the bottom corner for his third goal of the season.
Needham Market had an early opportunity in the third minute when Marcel Lewis broke into space but narrowly missed with a shot that went just wide. On the defensive end, Needham’s goalkeeper James Bradbrook made several key saves, including a notable stop against Courey Grantham’s effort and later denying Tonge and an Anstey header in the second half. Full league debutant Kell Fiddy also made a crucial block to prevent Anstey from extending their lead.
The second half featured chances at both ends. Needham’s Pearce came close again, shooting just wide six minutes after their equalizer. Ben Hunter also saw his effort go narrowly off target in the 72nd minute, while Anstey threatened in response, with Bradbrook pulling off an outstanding save to keep his team on level terms.
Neither side was able to find a winner before the final whistle, leaving both teams to share a point as they continue to vie for playoff positions in the current campaign.
