Millwall managed to secure a late draw against Lincoln City on Saturday despite a slow start, but manager Alex Neil expressed strong dissatisfaction with his team’s overall performance. The Championship side came from two goals down to earn a 2-2 result at The Den, with Lincoln playing much of the match with ten men following a late red card.
The visitors took an early lead within seconds when Andrei Coubis scored his first goal in English football, firing a low shot from outside the box that beat Millwall goalkeeper Filip Marschall. Rob Street doubled Lincoln’s advantage in the 33rd minute, capitalizing on a flick from teammate Sonny Bradley to slot the ball through Marschall’s legs.
Lincoln had chances to extend their lead early in the second half but were denied by the woodwork on two occasions. Freddie Draper’s header from an Adam Reach cross struck the post, followed closely by a similar effort from Dom Jefferies. It was not until after the hour mark that Millwall began to mount a comeback.
Kyrell Lisbie pulled a goal back in the 63rd minute, converting from close range after Camiel Neghli’s low cross was initially blocked. Millwall’s persistence paid off in the 82nd minute when Jake Cooper forced the ball over the line during a scramble following a corner delivered by Ryan Leonard.
The match took a decisive turn late on when Lincoln defender Deji Elerewe was shown a red card for a last-man foul on Zak Lovelace, leaving the visitors to defend their lead with ten players. Millwall pushed forward but could not find a winner, securing a point instead.
Despite the comeback, Neil was critical of his team’s display, describing the first half as “probably as poor as we’ve been” during his tenure. He cited a lack of intensity, weak ball retention, and poor transitions as key issues. Neil singled out the introduction of substitute Luke Cundle as a turning point that helped the team string together better passes and improve their offensive threat.
Lincoln’s spirited effort, though marred by the dismissal of Elerewe, earned them a valuable point following a heavy defeat earlier in the week. The result leaves both teams searching for consistency as the season progresses.
