A pocket book containing 46 naval orders issued by Admiral Horatio Nelson in 1799 is set to be auctioned. The book, which was used to convey instructions to the captain of HMS Bellerophon, offers insight into naval operations during a pivotal period in British maritime history.

Among the orders recorded is a directive to execute a sailor accused of mutiny while the fleet was anchored in the Bay of Naples. Another order instructs the crew to celebrate the anniversary of Nelson’s victory at the Battle of the Nile by toasting King George III’s health with half a pint of wine.

The pocket book is being offered for sale through Arch Books with an estimated value of £18,000. It was previously held in a private collection and provides a rare firsthand glimpse of Nelson’s command style and the discipline maintained within the Royal Navy at the close of the 18th century.
