Nepal Police Headquarters has issued a warning against the dissemination of misleading and unverified information concerning the police leadership, signaling potential legal consequences for those involved. The advisory came in response to circulating reports and comments insinuating that Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki is facing pressure to resign.
In a statement released late Wednesday, the IGP’s Secretariat, through Deputy Inspector General of Police and Central Police Spokesperson Abi Narayan Kafle, condemned the deliberate spread of false information aimed at damaging the organisation’s reputation, professionalism, and operational effectiveness. The statement stressed that such actions undermine public trust and pose security risks.
Authorities emphasized that individuals who attempt to embroil the police force in politically motivated controversy could face investigations and legal proceedings. The police leadership urged media entities, social media users, and other stakeholders to verify facts with official sources before releasing or sharing information.
The statement also highlighted the importance of adhering to professional journalistic standards and codes of conduct to prevent the spread of speculation and negativity. Despite facing what it described as misleading publicity and undue pressure, Nepal Police reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling constitutional and legal mandates in line with government policies.
Police personnel across all ranks have been instructed to maintain unity and high morale, continuing their duties without distraction from reports targeting the force's leadership and credibility. The public was likewise encouraged to rely on official, fact-based updates and avoid circulating unverifiable content.
