Nepali Congress president Gagan Thapa administered the oath of office and secrecy to the party’s newly elected office bearers and central committee members on Thursday, marking the formal assumption of their roles following the party’s 15th General Convention. The ceremony took place at the party’s central office, BP Smriti Bhawan, in Sanepa, Lalitpur.
Thapa, who was elected party president with 94 percent of the vote, had previously taken his oath on October 17, shortly after election results were finalized. The convention elections were held from October 4 to 9 in Kathmandu, with the final outcomes announced on October 16.
Among the newly appointed leaders, Bishwa Prakash Sharma assumed the position of senior vice-president. Chandrakant Bhandari and Madhu Acharya were elected as vice-presidents in the open category, Pushpa Bhusal as women’s vice-president, and Binod Chaudhary as inclusive vice-president. The general secretary posts were filled by Pradip Paudel, Uday Shumsher Rana, and Dila Sangraula.
In addition to taking the oath, the office bearers and central members signed an eight-point pledge affirming their commitment to the Constitution, the party’s statute and principles, organizational discipline, democratic values, integrity, and the interests of Nepal and its people. They also vowed to abstain from activities prohibited by law or contrary to party regulations and to work actively toward social welfare.
Addressing the gathering, Senior Vice-president Sharma emphasized the importance of prioritizing national interests above party politics. He highlighted the guiding principle of “country first, Congress second,” urging party leaders to focus on creating a modern and reformed Nepali Congress. Sharma underscored the shared responsibility among leaders to strengthen the party and drive broader social transformation aimed at achieving a prosperous Nepal.
The Central Election Committee distributed certificates to the elected officials during the event, solidifying their official roles as the party embarks on its next chapter under the new leadership.
