Nesta Guinness-Walker has completed a move to Aberdeen, seeking to establish his own reputation after departing Northampton Town. The 26-year-old left-back joins the Scottish Premiership club following Northampton’s relegation to League Two, despite being offered a new contract and interest from other clubs in both England and Scotland.
Guinness-Walker, who is related to the late Sir Alec Guinness—best known for his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original Star Wars films—acknowledged his great-grandfather’s legacy as a source of inspiration but emphasized his focus on forging his own career path. “He created a legacy and I use that as a bit of motivation as well to create my own part of history in my family,” Guinness-Walker said.
The player explained that Aberdeen’s history and ambition were key factors in his decision to move to Pittodrie Stadium. He highlighted a personal conversation with Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson as influential, noting the manager’s clear vision for the club’s future and his belief in Guinness-Walker’s potential to improve as a player. “He didn’t have to sell it too much,” Guinness-Walker said. “He spoke about the club, the history and how big the club is, how he wanted me on board and to push on and improve.”
Guinness-Walker brings experience from English League One and the Championship levels and is expected to compete for playing time with Aberdeen’s current left-sided players Mitchel Frame and Emmanuel Gyamfi. Although comfortable across the left flank, his preferred position is left-back. “I offer hard work and I like to get forward. I also back myself in one-v-one defensive situations,” he said.
The new signing aims to contribute energy and excitement to the team while striving to help Aberdeen achieve success on the pitch. “I will give 100 per cent for the badge,” he added, looking ahead to the challenges of Scottish football and his role in the club’s future ambitions.
