Nestle has announced the creation of a new joint venture valued at approximately £4.2 billion, which will include its Buxton and Perrier brands along with other bottled water and hydration products. The Swiss food and beverage company has partnered with private equity firm Platinum Equity to establish Peranel, a Paris-based business in which both parties will hold equal 50% ownership.
The joint venture will bring together more than 30 brands, including Perrier, Buxton, Acqua Panna, hydration beverages, and the Nestle Pure Life brand. Nestle indicated that the arrangement is expected to generate cash proceeds of around £2.6 billion for the company.
Trade union Unite has expressed concerns about potential risks to jobs at the Buxton water facility in the United Kingdom following the announcement. The union cautioned against any moves that could threaten employment within the business.
This transaction forms part of Nestle’s broader strategic restructuring efforts, focusing on streamlining its portfolio and enhancing operational efficiency. Details regarding the timeline for the completion of the deal and further operational plans for Peranel have not yet been disclosed.
