Bayern Munich welcomed goalkeeper Manuel Neuer back to training on Tuesday ahead of their Champions League fixture against Arsenal, although midfielder Joshua Kimmich and head coach Vincent Kompany remained absent.

Neuer, 40, had been sidelined with a foot injury, leading to Jonas Urbig stepping in during Bayern’s recent 3-3 draw with Viking Stavanger and their 6-1 Bundesliga victory over RB Leipzig. While Neuer has resumed training, Bayern has yet to confirm whether he will start against Arsenal. Assistant coach Aaron Danks noted Neuer’s return to the pitch as a positive development and said a final decision would be made in consultation with Kompany and the coaching staff.

Kimmich missed Tuesday’s session for personal reasons, while Kompany was absent due to illness. The Bayern head coach has been battling a viral infection and hip discomfort, issues that forced him to remain on the bench during the Leipzig match. Danks has taken charge of training and pre-match media duties in Kompany’s absence.

“Vincent Kompany has been advised to take it easy due to a viral infection,” Bayern stated. Danks described the situation as closely monitored and emphasized the importance of rest. “It’s been affecting his legs at times, he’s been in pain. The most important thing is that he gets some rest and takes his time,” Danks said.

Bayern will also be without influential winger Michael Olise, who is suspended after receiving a red card during the tie against Viking Stavanger. When asked about potential replacements for Olise, Danks mentioned Lennart Karl as a possible option and highlighted the depth of the squad. “Of course, we miss Michael when he’s not involved, but then it’s up to the others to step up,” he said.

Arsenal, who travel to the Allianz Arena, last won in Munich in 2013 but secured a 3-1 victory over Bayern in their previous meeting in London nearly a year ago. The match is poised to be a critical test for both sides as they aim to secure progression in the group stage of the Champions League.
